Former Tunisia FA (FTF) and CAF ExCo member Wadie Jary has thrown in the towel and resigned as president, stating categorically that he no longer wishes to be associated with the FA as he pursues his freedom.
This was after the Indictment Chamber of the Tunis Court of Appeal declined his appeal, the second botched appeal after the first one was denied on December 26th 2023.
His lawyer Kamel Ben Khelil, speaking on April 3, 2024 during “Sport Mag” show by Karim Makni on Diwan Fm said that his client (Wadie Jary) was aware of what was happening at the Tunisian Football Federation, but that he did not feel concerned by it. “He has gone beyond the question of betrayal of those who did not support him and those who disappointed him,” the lawyer added.
Wadie Jarie is engulfed in overlapping criminal cases, the main one concerning the recruitment of the Technical Director of FTF. He is also subject to a second criminal proceeding in a case concerning the CAF school championships launched by Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
The lawyer also added that the cases will not be decided at the first hearing, which is scheduled for early next month, signaling a long and protracted court case for the former football official.
FTF is set to hold fresh elections to replace Wadie Jarie on May 15th 2024.
It should be recalled that the investigating judge of the Court of First Instance of Tunis closed the investigation in the case of the former president of the Tunisia FA (FTF), and referred him to the Indictment Chamber with that ruling still pending.
